Ruthless Hamsters

I haven't posted any funny Sunday Funday internet content in a while, and I think that should be remedied.

So I saw this video on the internet this week, and I just died laughing.  I didn't know that hamsters in their exercise wheels could be so funny!  I hope this little clip makes you laugh just like it did me.

(FYI: You don't really need to turn on your sound for this video.)

Who knew hamsters could be so ruthless as to run over each other like that!  Lol.  I hope you got a good laugh!

A Few E-Cards to Make You LOL {Sunday Funday}

Today I would really just like to make somebody laugh.  So, rather than try to come up with some mildly funny story, I'm just going to steal a few e-cards from one of my Pinterest boards.  I hope a few of them make you laugh out loud and maybe that you relate to a few too!

Enjoy!

Am I the only person who experiences this quite often?!

(Could not find the source on this one)

Funny Friendship Ecard: That was actually really funny. But I don't like you. Therefore I shall not laugh.
It's not exactly nice, but I'm still willing to bet you've done this at least once in your life.  I'm pretty sure I have.

Funny Confession Ecard: I work out for the sole purpose of eating more. Don't judge me..
So. True.

Funny Confession Ecard: I daydream while driving and wonder...how in the world did I make it home!?
Oh yeah.  All the time.

Funny Confession Ecard: That moment when you're supposed to be cleaning and you put on music and it turns into a dance party for one.
This happens to me ALL THE TIME when I'm cooking!

Funny Workplace Ecard: Sometimes I write down tasks after I've done them, just to get the satisfaction of crossing them off my list.
Then I have a comprehensive list of the things I accomplished that day.  So it's totally rational, right?!

I hope you laughed at least once!  If not, then you probably think I'm a weirdo, because I love all of these!

Movies I'm Excited to See

2014 brings chances for new beginnings, a fresh start in a new year, and many other things.  I'm excited and scared to see what this new year holds, but one things I do know: the movies will be awesome!  Here are some of the ones I'm looking forward to in the first few months 2014.

Just click on the movie titles to go to IMDb.com where you can see more information and watch trailers.

January
Lone Survivor - This one is already out, and Thomas and I already have plans to see it, but I still can't hardly wait.  I love a lot of the cast members (Mark Wahlberg, of course), and I also really love a good action movie.  I'm interested to see this one since it's based on a true story and apparently pretty close to what really happened.

Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit - I'm a big fan of all the Jack Ryan movies (I've never read any of the books though).  I have loved Alec Baldwin, Harrison Ford, and Ben Affleck as Jack Ryan, and I'm also really excited to see Chris Pine in the role.

I, Frankenstein - This one is a bit more of a wild card.  Aaron Eckhart playing Frankenstein's monster in a mythical world with different species battling for control.  I'm not sure about how I feel about Aaron Eckhart in this type of role, but the storyline intrigues me.

February
The Monuments Men - I am DYING to see this movie.  An "Ocean's 11" type of cast in a World War II drama/comedy/action flick.  Oh, amazing.  This movie is going to be absolutely amazing.

Robocop - Eh, this one is sort of a take-it-or-leave-it one for me.  I'm interested in the story line but not wow-ed by the cast, so we'll see. With all the other choices, this is one that may have to wait until it comes out on DVD.

Winter's Tale - So I recently read the book, and the movie will probably be absolutely nothing like it.  But that isn't necesarrily a bad thing.  The book was very confusing, and the ending was weird.  So I'll be really happy if they deviate a bit and just turn it into the really beautiful love story that is almost was.

Non-Stop - Liam Neeson doing what he does best... getting the bad guys.  On a plane.  Over the Atlantic (or Pacific, or something).  Against all odds.  I don't really care what else this movie has going for it, I'm already in.

March
300: Rise of an Empire - Well, I loved "300".  So, this one has me interested.  The cast isn't quite as good as the first movie.  But ancient Greek and Roman history is my thing.  So even if it's butchered into things that didn't really happen in history, even if I don't love the cast, even if the storyline is completely fake, I will still watch it.  I just love this time period that much.

Divergent - I loved the book!  And the second book.  The third book, not so much.  But, from the looks of all the previews I've seen, the movie seems like it will pretty heavily deviate from the book.  So, I'm really interested to see what the filmmakers' visual take is.

Noah - I've mentioned this movie before when the preview first came out, but I'm still really excited to see this!  I absolutely love Russell Crowe (I mean, who doesn't?!), and this has the possibility to be an epic movie with a great spiritual message.  I'm really excited about this one.

So, this isn't completely a comprehensive list.  Thomas and I may end up seeing a few others in the coming months.  And we may end up skipping a few of these.  But I'll keep you updated on my reviews as I see them!  "Lone Survivor" this week, I can't wait!

Crazy Cat {Sunday Fun Day}

Hey all!

So, I really wanted to post this yesterday for Sunday Fun Day, but it took me forever to research the source of this gif and figure out how to post it here.  After much research, I still don't know the original source, but you can click here for the site I got it from.

So, I saw this on the internets several weeks ago, and it still makes me laugh out loud every time I see it!  Seriously, we were sitting in Menchie's eating ice cream a few nights ago, and Thomas brought it up.  I was laughing so hard I could barely keep from spitting my ice cream out!  I'm still laughing while writing this post.  I don't know why I this is so hilarious to me, but it is.  I hope you enjoy just a little bit!

What the Fox Do {Sunday Fun Day}

Thomas and I were just talking about that strange video "What the Fox Say" this morning, so when I just went to write the title to the following post, that's what popped in my head.  That is in no means a push for you to go watch the video unless you want to waste 3-4 minutes of your life.  (Yes, unfortunately, I've seen it.)

Anyway, here's what this post is really about... It is actually about foxes.  But not about what noises they make.  The following video is a clip from the recent Discovery Channel special called "North America".  You know, one of those nature shows that features tons of amazing nature footage and voice-over narration by someone with a great reading voice (in this case Tom Selleck).

Moving on... this clip is about a fox that lives in a wintry landscape and how it hunts to stay alive.  Now, normally when they show animals hunting, I automatically change the channel, but this clip is not graphic.  There is only a little squeaking from a poor little animal, but that's it.  And this fox is just so dang cool and adorable that I just love it!

Ok, here you go.  Watch this awesome clip.
Wow!  That is just so cool!  I just love that God made an animal, that's been around for-like-ever, that uses physics, math, etc. that we humans just discovered in recent years.  It's just amazing how intricate God is.  How creative He is when He creates not only us, but all living things.  And He likes when we stop to awe in how awesome He is and give him credit for his amazing work!  Does it get more interesting than things like this?!

Christmas Music {Sunday Fun Day}

Thomas doesn't really like Christmas music.  So, it's a limited commodity in our home.  I'm also stuck on the same Christmas music that I've listened to for years.  Not much gets added to my holiday playlist.   My favorites include: Amy Grant Christmas (from like forever ago), Point of Grace's Christmas cd (also from years ago), and an odd assortment of Christmas carols in French.  Yes, I actually listen to French music in my free time.

Anyway, I just could not pass up this Christmas season without sharing one of my favorite Christmas songs.  It also happens to be a mash-up of a bunch of different songs, so it's definitely worth listening to.

This has been around for years, but I can't help listening to it over and over each Christmas because it's so hilarious!

Say hello to "Straight No Chaser", a guys a capella group.  Besides being really extremely talented, this song is absolutely hilarious.  They have tons of other songs around the internet, so if you like them, there's plenty more to enjoy!
LOVE it!  Merry Christmas!!!

"Hashtag" {Sunday Fun Day}

This video has been all over my Facebook newsfeed this week, and I just can't help but share it here.  This cracks me up!  I don't have a Twitter, so I didn't even understand what a hashtag was until we had a discussion on it in my classes last year.  But, now that I know what they are, they do seem a little ridiculous sometimes.

The funny part is that Thomas and I have started saying stupid things like this in our conversations now, just for a laugh.  Oh, we're ridiculous!

Here you go!

"lolololololololol"  Ha!

A Bunch of Random Strung Together

This weekend has been a little busy thus far.  And yes, I know what you're thinking... You don't have kids; you don't have a job; how can your life be busy?!  You probably sit around all day and eat bon-bons.  And well... you're actually pretty close!  Being a stay-at-home housewife with no kids right now does offer me quite a bit of time to do things I want to do, but that doesn't necessarily mean I sit on my couch all day watching t.v.

Actually, I watched most of my t.v. from the kitchen this weekend.  (lol)  For real though, the weekends are busier because Thomas is home from work and the rest of the world generally uses the weekends for hang out time too.  The weekdays offer a lot more free time.

But let's start out with Friday afternoon.  Thomas decided to work late, and that worked out really well for me because of this... some of my afternoon was spent on the couch because I was pinned there by an adorable sleeping kitty!  (And can anyone guess what show the credits on the t.v. belong to?  Here are 2 tiny hints: I was watching this show on Netflix because it is on break right now; and this episode is from season 5.  I'll tell you at the end of the post in case you are incredibly awesome and guess it!)

Another reason I was happy that he came home late is because this is what my kitchen/dining room looked like at 5:00 pm.
Yeah, so due to some unforeseen delays (i.e. Netflix being mean so that I had to mess with it and not warp the loom as quickly, and realizing halfway through warping it that I wanted to use a yarn that still needed to be wound into a ball), my new weaving project was not out of the kitchen until about 5:30, which is usually about the time that I'm setting the table for dinner.  However, since the hubs was coming home late, fortunately, my project didn't interfere with getting dinner on the table!

But anyway, here's a quick snapshot of the warp for the new project!  I'm really excited about this one.  I'll post another sneak peek when I get the weaving started.

Saturday, in the morning, we went to see "Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters".  And it was pretty good.  Just keep in mind that if you have read the books, the movie is nothing like them.  Basically they went with the same characters and a similar main plot, but everything else if different.  That being said, it was entertaining as a movie.  I just always find it a little disappointing when filmmakers change so much about a book just to "make their mark" on it.

Then, Saturday afternoon, I attended my very first baby shower as an adult.  *Gasp*  I know, right?!  I've "never" been to a baby shower before.  (Never is in quotes because I'm sure I've probably been to one as a child, but I just don't remember.)  And it was surprisingly not terrifying or horrifying or anything (lol).  It was a really fun time hanging out with the girlfriends!

And of course, today, Sunday, we have church in the morning and Life group at night.  The only thing I don't love about Sundays is that I see all my friends a lot on Sunday and then very little throughout the week.  I just wish I could space out my human interaction a little more!  Lol.

Next up:  I did the count today, since the summer blockbuster movies are pretty much petering out and school starts this week.  (Backstory: every summer, I make a list of all the summer movies I/we want to see so that I can keep track of all of our movie activity.  Even though, really I do this all year long because I keep every movie ticket ever.  But summer's always a great time for movies.)  So, this summer, Thomas and I saw 10 movies in the theaters.  (Now you can tell how we spend all of our free time and money!)  So here are the ten (organized by release date), with a very quick review of each!  (Note: please do not go see a movie just because I said it was good.  I like almost everything.  Also, these reviews also mention nothing about MPAA ratings, so please research that before taking my advice.)
  1. Iron Man 3 - awesome; definitely on the same caliber as the first two
  2. Star Trek Into Darkness - awesome; loved it; comedy, action, suspense
  3. Fast and Furious 6 - amazing; I love these movies so much.  Not great acting, predictable and outlandish but so so amazing
  4. Now You See Me - very entertaining; kept me guessing the whole time; really liked the cast
  5. Man of Steel - amazing; best Superman movie ever; best Superman ever; props to a super buff Henry Cavill
  6. World War Z - very interesting and original; Brad Pitt is great; another new zombie movie with a different twist
  7. White House Down - intense with some humor thrown in; a good two hours
  8. The Wolverine - dark and different; a step away from the more "traditional" X-Men movies; really interesting
  9. 2 Guns - loved it; Marky Mark and Denzel are great together
  10. Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters - entertaining; very, very different than the book
So there are the summer movies from my line-up.  And as you'll see, there isn't a bad review in there.  So remember that just because I loved it doesn't mean it's a movie worth your time and money.  I have very broad, unrefined taste in movies, and I love it that way!

So, that brings you up to date in my oh-so-fabulous life!  I'm a little excited about this week because I just had an idea while I was doing the dishes... this week is going to have a theme here on the blog, and you'll find out what it is tomorrow!

*** The credits on the t.v. belong to season 5 of Doctor Who.  Best television show in the history of mankind.  (Just sayin)

Oh Marriage! {Sunday Fun Day}

So, last night I was reading some of the blogs I like and Pinteresting for recipes, and I somehow came across this video from youtube.  I can't give credit to the blog I found it on, because I just have no idea where I found it.

For any of you out there who are married, you can relate to this video.  It is SO true!  God made men and women unique, and we can both do dumb things sometimes, but this one is just so typical.  Husbands and wives will like this one!  Please, please, please take the minute and a half to watch this... you will not regret it!!!

Haha!!!  I love it!  Have a fun day this Sunday!

Funfetti Dip {Sunday Fun Day}

Woot woot!  Today was a lovely Sunday!!!  (Side bar: has anybody picked up on the fact that I love the word "lovely" yet?!)  Let's count off some things I loved about today:
  1. My breakfast yogurt parfait was delish!  Publix Vanilla Yogurt, fresh strawberries, and Oatmeal Squares (these are a great crunch to yogurt when I don't have any granola made).  Yummy!
  2. I just really love our church.  God has really blessed us with some great Godly people to surround ourselves with.  You all know who you are!
  3. A calm afternoon of hanging out with the hubby and preparing for our trip to St. Louis this summer to see our families.
  4. Then, we spent the afternoon/evening at the beach with our life group and ate some delicious pizza for dinner.
  5. We were leaving the beach when the rain started (I love that it waited for us to be done)  :)
  6. For dessert: chocolate covered cheesecake on a stick at our favorite hot dog joint!  Double YUM!
  7. And finish it up with a nice, hot shower and some snuggling and one of our tv shows in bed with the hubs!
So, I repeat, what a lovely Sunday!

But, here's for the FUN DAY part.  It's so fun, it's called Funfetti Dip!  I found a recipe on Pinterest for Skinny Funfetti Dip, and boom, I was there!  Some of you may not know, but I have an intense love affair with sprinkles.  I would put them on anything.  I LOVE LOVE LOVE sprinkles!  So, funfetti?  Yes please!

The recipe I found actually called for Funfetti cake mix, but alas, I did not have any in my house!  So, I improvised, and here's my version.  (I also divided everything by 3 because it would have made loads of dip, and we really don't need that in the house, even if it's not incredibly fattening.)  It's pretty darn delish.  Oh, and the even more fun part, after stirring the dip a couple of times, it's now all tie-die-ey.  Like an Easter egg on drugs.  It's pretty awesome and hilarious.

{Low Calorie} Funfetti Dip
Adapted from Sweet Treats and More
(For a LOT of dip, multiply everything by 3)

Ingredients:

  • 1/3 box of Gooey Butter Cake Mix (my box was 15.25 ounces, so I just weighed out 5 ounces)
  • 1/2 cup light Cool Whip, thawed
  • 2/3 non-fat vanilla yogurt
  • As many sprinkles as your heart desires
Directions:
  1. Stir the cake mix, cool whip, and yogurt together in a bowl until smooth.
  2. Add sprinkles and stir in.  Then garnish more sprinkles on top.
  3. Eat with graham crackers, nilla wafers, Teddy Grahams, animal crackers, etc.
  4. Store in the fridge.
So, YUM!  Do you have anything along the lines of "Sunday Fun Day" to share?

Sunday Fun Day: Just Some

I thought I'd share a funny childhood story of mine this week.

I never really liked cooking or baking as a child.  I was always so terrified that I was going to mess something up, and then everything would be ruined.

Part of this frustration came from cooking with my mom.  She'd ask me to help with dinner, etc.  And if there was not recipe, I would have to ask her what to do every step of the way.  (Even to cook things as easy as spaghetti noodles.  I was pretty helpless.)

And inevitably, we would come to a point in the recipe when I would ask how much of something to add and the answer would be, "Oh, I don't know... Just some."  ...Um, ok.  So, what do you mean some?  "Well, I don't measure it.  Just pour some in."

What?!  What in the world does some mean?  A little, a lot?  The whole bottle?  Just a pinch?  I had absolutely no idea as to what she wanted me to get from "just some".

It drove me bananas!  I hated that part of cooking because I was terrified to mess our entire family dinner up.  So, I'd have to get her to come over and watch me pour whatever-it-was in.  And sometimes I got, "yeah, that's good." but sometimes it felt like, "NO, NO, NO, not that much!!!"  Mom was never mean about it, but the "just some" made me crazy.

How was I ever supposed to learn to cook if I never knew what I was doing?  Besides the fact that mom had to stand over my shoulder and watch me fumble around when she could have clearly done it faster and easier without me.

Don't get me wrong though, my mom and I had some great times in the kitchen.  My favorite memory is the first time she/we made Texas sheet cake.  And, as it turned out, the pan was too small.  And we poured the (liquid) icing on the cake only to have it run off the sides, onto the counter, down the cabinets, and onto the floor.  I remember laughing so hard trying to mop all of that icing up.

But, the point of the story is, I have now become the cooker/baker that I hated as a child.  I am coming into a love of trying new things.  But I am also trying so many new things that sometimes I get lazy and stop using the recipe.  So I start adding "just some" of this or that or whatever.  And you know, now I have to stand over Thomas' shoulder sometimes to explain to him how much "just some" means.

So, mom, I'm following in your footsteps!  So, you'll be proud to know, I am learning the full meaning of "just some".

Sunday Fun Day: Patty Cake Cats

I saw this on the internet the other day, and I just love it.

This is what happens when you get some high school guys together.  They wander onto youtube and make voices for a video of cats playing patty cake.  Lol!

So, there's just a little something fun to make you laugh!
Happy Sunday Fun Day!

Sunday Funday: Homemade Cheesecake and First World Problems

Well, the cheesecake has officially been tested, and Thomas and I agree that it is DELICIOUS!!!!  I'm so thankful that I picked a good recipe (off of the hundreds on Pinterest), and I'm also incredibly grateful that I didn't screw it up!  So, I feel the need to share this wonderful recipe with you!

I do like that I went with a plain cheesecake recipe because now that I know what I'm doing, I feel like I could spice it up next time with some add-ins or maybe make a smaller cheesecake (maybe an 8") and use the leftover batter for personal cheesecakes in muffin cups!  The possibilities are endless!!!

So, I originally found this recipe through Pinterest, and I didn't change much from the original recipe posted by Katy on "Food for a Hungry Soul".  Katy also listed that the recipe came from Jim Fobel's Old Fashioned Baking Book.

So, here's my FIRST cheesecake saga!  Enjoy!

First off, you have to let 5 eggs, 4 bricks of cream cheese, 1 stick of unsalted butter and 2 cups of sour cream sit out to reach room temperature.  Boy, was that torture!  On the upside though, I was smart enough to make a little fort out of the cream cheese and butter and put the eggs in the middle so they wouldn't decide to hop onto the floor while I wasn't looking!

After about a million years, you can then start creaming things together.  Eggs and sour cream in the BIGGEST mixing bowl you own.  And cream cheese and butter in the SECOND BIGGEST bowl you own!  Seriously, I thought all of this stuff was going to overflow my enormous bowls.  Then, when you've beat these two sets of ingredients, add the cream cheese mixture to the sour cream and egg mixture, and beat it to perfection!
After that, you add sugar, cornstarch and vanilla and beat for 2 minutes.  And that's where I slightly altered the recipe.  The original called for less vanilla and some lemon juice and lemon zest.

Then, you're almost there!  Make sure your oven is preheated to 300 degrees Fahrenheit.   And here's the hard part.  Wrap your 10" springform pan in two layers of aluminum foil to try and prevent water from seeping in.  You'll also have to have a huge pan ready for the water bath.  The pan needs to be big enough that the springform pan doesn't touch the sides.  I bought a big disposable roasting pan to use because I don't have any pans that big.

So, now, pour the cheesecake filling deliciousness into the springform pan, and place the pan in the roaster.  Then, put the whole thing in the oven and pour very hot tap water into the roasting pan until it reaches halfway up the springform pan.  Once it's in the oven, if you're one of those adventurous people, lick the bowl.  Yuuuuuuuuuummmm!
Let the whole thing bake for about 2 hours to 2 hours and 15 minutes.  My tip is to make sure you keep an eye on it.  I looked in on my cake at about 1:55 and the top was done.  I took it out because I didn't want it to burn, but in hindsight, I probably should have put aluminum foil on top and left it in the oven for a little longer.  The top was definitely done, but I think the inside was maybe just a tad bit too moist.
Once you take it out of the oven, let it sit at room tempurature for FOUR HOURS!!!  I had to set an alarm to wake up at 2:30 am to put this thing in the fridge!  But, after the four hour sit, just pop it into the fridge.  I covered it loosely first.  The recipe said to let it chill over night.  I let mine sit until after dinner the next night so we could have it for dessert, and it was perfection!!!

I also made a blackberry sauce to go with it.  Delish!

So here's my slightly altered version of the recipe.
New York Cheesecake
Adapted from: "Food for a Hungry Soul"

Ingredients:

5 large eggs, room temperature
2 cups sour cream, room temperature
4 8-ounce packages cream cheese, room temperature
8 tablespoons unsalted butter, room temperature
1 1/2 cups sugar
2 tablespoons cornstarch
2 1/2 teaspoons vanilla extract

Directions:
  1. Lay out the eggs, sour cream, cream cheese, and butter and allow them to reach room temperature.  Wrap a 10" springform pan in two layers of aluminum foil.
  2. When the ingredients are at room temperature, preheat your oven to 300 degrees.  Then, cream the eggs and sour cream together with an electric mixer in a very large bowl.
  3. In another bowl, beat the cream cheese and butter together until well combined and creamy.
  4. Next, add the cream cheese and butter to the egg and sour cream mixture.  Beat these together until creamy, no lumps allowed.
  5. Last, add the remaining ingredients: sugar, cornstarch, and vanilla, and beat until well combined.
  6. Pour the filling into the springform pan.  Put the cheesecake pan into the roasting pan and put the whole thing in the oven.
  7. Pour very hot tap water into the roasting pan until it's about halfway up the cheesecake pan.
  8. Bake for 2 hours to 2 hours 15 minutes, and keep an eye on it to make sure the top doesn't become over brown.
  9. When its lightly brown on top, take everything out of the oven.  Be really careful when removing the springform pan from the water bath because the water is super hot.  But, remove the springform pan and take the aluminum foil wrap off.
  10. Allow the cheesecake to cool at room temperature for 4 hours.  Then pop it into the fridge to chill for as long as possible.  12 hours seemed to be a good amount of time.
  11. Try not to eat the entire thing in one sitting!
Fresh Blackberry Sauce
*** This makes about 1/4 cup of sauce, which is not much, but it was good for us since we gave a lot of the cheesecake away to friends too.
  1.  Add several tablespoons of sugar to about 20 blackberries and mash the whole thing together a little bit.  Then let it sit for a while, half an hour is a good amount of time.
  2. Then boil the mixture in a small sauce pan.  Allow it to boil just a bit to help combine and thicken.  Stir continually and continue to smoosh the blackberries around.
  3. Push everything through a strainer to keep all of the seeds out of the sauce.
  4. Drizzle over your scrumptious cheesecake.
Enjoy your delicious dessert!!!

So... now to the other part of Sunday Fun day!  I thought we could all use a little of the silly things all over the internet that make us laugh.  And, one of the silly things that makes me laugh is the popular meme of "First World Problems".  They are hilarious because they're so true.  And though they make me laugh, they also remind me of how blessed I am, and how I should be more thankful for everything I have.  So, here is a first world problem!
Just a funny reminder that we should be much more thankful for all of the wonderful blessings God has given us.  Wherever you are, the fact that you have the ability to read this post means that you are incredibly blessed.

Have a wonderful night!
